Christmas Greetings from Alistair Begg

Warmest Christmas Greetings!

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’” — Matthew 1:18-21

Being Thankful by Alistair Begg

Dear Friend,

The subtitle of The Art of the Handwritten Note by Margaret Shepherd is A Guide to Reclaiming Civilized Communication! As grateful as we are for the immediacy of email and text, there is just something about the impact of one’s handwriting (even when, like mine, it’s often hard to decipher). Perhaps it’s because the time dedicated to writing a note gives one the opportunity to reflect on the person to whom they’re grateful. It is a worthwhile endeavor—and, if you’re like me, you will seldom retain an email, but you may treasure a personal card.

Alistair Begg Reflects on the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation

Dear Friend,

This month marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. This theological revolution is largely ignored and forgotten, not just in our secular culture, but more tragically in an increasingly confused and compromised Church.

Alistair Begg Reflects on His Recent Travels

Dear Friend,

“All One in Christ Jesus” is the tagline of the Keswick Convention. Begun over 140 years ago by a small group of clergymen who were keen to encourage one another in the “quiet” days of summer, it has grown into a three-week event involving thousands of attendees from the UK and the rest of the world.

Alistair Begg reminds us of the importance of reading our Bible

Dear Friend,

In 1966, the American Bible Society published a new translation of the Bible called Today’s English Version. My copy is identified on the spine as The Good News Bible. The paperback New Testaments were marketed as “Good News for Modern Man.” In our current climate of political correctness, that title doesn’t fly. In these matters, I am distinctly and happily old-fashioned. It is perfectly fine for me to read the Bible—no adjectives required. Someone might be forgiven for assuming that if it is the “Good News” Bible, perhaps there is another version bearing different news—maybe bad news!

Alistair Begg Reflects on Turning 65

Dear Friend,

“O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.” – Psalm 71:17

They say, “you’re only as old as you feel.” In truth, we are as old as the calendar declares. I have been pondering this matter since turning 65 in May. It’s the recollection of the “penny ticket” that has set me thinking in this way.

Alistair Begg on God's Faithfulness

Dear Friend,

The words to the poem “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” written by Thomas O. Chisholm back in 1923 were so moving that the musician who gave them melody prayed earnestly that he might pen a tune worthy of the lyric. His prayer was answered! Today, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is sung in churches around the world and is a hymn you likely know well.
