What Can We Learn From Followers of Jesus Throughout the Centuries?

While everyone has a family tree, not everyone knows their family’s history. As Christians, however, we have the distinct privilege of claiming the shared narrative of Christ’s Church, our very own family of faith that spans two thousand years. How can we begin to trace the fragments of a story that has coursed through twenty centuries, branching north and south, east and west, into the whole of our modern world?

Alistair Begg on Brexit and Providence

Dear Friend,

Although thirty-five years have passed since leaving my homeland, I’m still keenly interested in the politics of the UK today. You’ll not be surprised to learn that I’ve been following the discussions and debates about Brexit. (You may need to Google that!) On March 29, Great Britain is to formally withdraw from membership in the European Union. I will not disclose my personal views for fear that some of my Dutch or German friends may disown me. Her hope rested in the certainty that God guards the faithful and will triumph over His enemies. Only God, who stepped into the brokenness of our condition, can minister to aching hearts like hers as He works all things according to His good purposes.

Video: "May the Lord Establish His Word" by Alistair Begg

After years of backsliding, Israel was a spiritually fruitless nation—and, as Alistair Begg explains, Hannah’s barren condition mirrored her people’s predicament. When the Lord granted Hannah a son, then, He answered more than a mother’s prayers: Samuel’s arrival fulfilled God’s covenant promise to establish His Word by providing leadership for Israel. God did not intervene because Hannah or the Israelites earned His favor. Rather, He always acts according to His unfolding plan of redemption and care for His people.

God's Only Plan (An Excerpt from the book God's Big Picture)

Although the Bible contains a diverse collection of writings penned across generations, it holds together as one book, with God as its author. Scripture’s unifying subject is Jesus Christ and the salvation He brings—but even believers misunderstand the message being conveyed throughout the Old and New Testaments. Vaughan Roberts, in his helpful book God’s Big Picture: Tracing the Storyline of the Bible, offers clarification:
