Did Jesus really die on the cross, or did He merely faint? Did He rise from the grave, or did His disciples steal His body? Were the witnesses to His resurrection and ascension merely hallucinating?

Did Jesus really die on the cross, or did He merely faint? Did He rise from the grave, or did His disciples steal His body? Were the witnesses to His resurrection and ascension merely hallucinating?

We’ve all heard these questions and perhaps wondered about them ourselves. There’s more riding on the answers than we might assume at first glance. Christian faith actually rests on the fact that Christ died and rose from the grave three days later. As the apostle Paul proclaimed, “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain and your faith is in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:14, ESV). This is why the truth of the resurrection has been challenged ever since the discovery of the empty tomb.

Secular culture often dismisses Christ’s resurrection as myth. It claims that since miracles can’t be scientifically substantiated, they can’t be true. So how do we know the resurrection is true? And how do we respond when asked for scientific proof?

In his new book Alive: How the Resurrection of Christ Changes Everything, Dr. Gabriel Fluhrer confronts the flawed reasoning of some of today’s most popular theories and arguments against Jesus’ resurrection. He then investigates both the historical and biblical evidence that consistently points to the reality of the resurrection as the most logical conclusion. This book assures us of Scripture’s validity by demonstrating how the resurrection foreshadowed in the Old Testament is fulfilled in the New.

Jesus’ resurrection is just as critical to God’s redemption plan as the crucifixion. Alive helps us see how Christ’s victory over sin and death is the foundation for our hope and should shape every aspect of our daily lives. Jesus promises abundant life in Him. Find out what that means for us presently, as well as after death.

Christianity isn’t a blind faith that asks us to abandon intellectual reasoning. Even Jesus and the apostles employed logic in their responses to opposition. By reading Alive, we can alleviate our own doubts and be prepared to confidently answer questions and challenges to our faith with a thorough, convincing defense of the truth.

If you’d like to be bolder as you tell others about the spectacular events surrounding Easter, you’ll want to read Alive: How the Resurrection of Christ Changes Everything.

See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Sermons about Christ’s Death

Why did Christ die and what does his death mean for us today? Alistair Begg looks at the death of Christ in the sermons below and reminds us that by dying on the cross, Jesus Christ bore the wrath of our sins.

Why did Christ die and what does his death mean for us today? Alistair Begg looks at the death of Christ in the sermons below and reminds us that by dying on the cross, Jesus Christ bore the wrath of our sins.

Christ’s Sacrifice of Himself (Hebrews 9:11–14) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

Christians in every age face the danger of drifting from the essential truths of the Gospel. Alistair Begg reminds us that the answer to this dilemma is not in examining ourselves, but in looking to Jesus. By offering Himself for our sins, He provided the only sacrifice that can cleanse our consciences and set us free to serve the living God.

Justice and Love (Isaiah 53:1-12, Romans 3:21–26) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

God is perfectly loving; and He demonstrates this in His mercy. It is also true that God is perfectly just; and He demonstrates this in the fact that He cannot let sin go unpunished. These truths may seem completely opposite and incompatible, yet they are not. In this study Alistair Begg teaches us how God demonstrates both His justice and love in the cross of Jesus Christ.

The Curtain Torn in Two (Luke 23:45) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain that separated the Most Holy Place in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. In this Good Friday message, Alistair Begg reminds us that this event dramatically illustrated the truth that unfolded at the same time. Jesus’ once-for-all sacrifice accomplished what the Old Testament priesthood could never achieve. He has delivered His people from bondage to sin and declared the path to God open so that sinful men and women can approach God by faith with confidence that our sins are forgiven.

In This is Love (1 John 4:10) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

God’s love for us—for each one of us—is expressed in the great cost He paid at Calvary, bearing the wrath that our sins deserve. But as we learn in this message, until the Holy Spirit shows us our sinfulness, we won’t understand our need of salvation.

The Death of Jesus (Mark 15:33–41) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

Mark’s account of the crucifixion includes particular observations that lead us to a deeper understanding of what Christ accomplished on the cross. Although Jesus endured the full force of suffering as a man, the meaning of the cross is found beyond the physical torments He endured. Alistair Begg explains that the death of Christ was central to God’s purposes in the world: Christ bore the sin and endured God’s judgment to redeem a people for Himself.

As we enter the days and weeks before Easter, it’s appropriate for us to set aside time to reflect on the astonishing truth that Christ Jesus, the Son of God, came in order to die that broken sinners could have their sins forgiven and be reconciled to God.
As we enter the days and weeks before Easter, it’s appropriate for us to set aside time to reflect on the astonishing truth that Christ Jesus, the Son of God, came in order to die that broken sinners could have their sins forgiven and be reconciled to God. We hope that the resources listed below will be helpful to you as you contemplate this wonderful gift.

The Cross of Christ

 By John Stott

At the cross, preacher John Stott finds the majesty and love of God disclosed and the sin and bondage of the world exposed. More than a study of the atonement, this book brings Scripture into living dialogue with Christian theology and the twentieth century. What emerges is a pattern for Christian life and worship, hope and mission.

The Cross: The Pulpit of God's Love

By Iain H. Murray

The atonement is at the center of the Christian faith. The purpose of Gospel preaching is to make known what God has done in the cross of Jesus Christ. But how are we to preach the cross? Does our preaching resemble that of the New Testament apostles? Does it match the passionate freeness with which the church’s greatest evangelists preached the cross to needy sinners? In this booklet, Iain Murray helps us to think through the message of the cross, to appreciate God’s love and justice in the death of Christ, and to grasp the truth afresh that “by Christ crucified the love of God and his willingness to save is to be made known to all people.”

Frederick Leahy spent a lifetime in the ministry of the Word. In these pages, preacher, pastor, and theologian come together in a happy unity. No words are wasted. There is nothing of the frothy and insubstantial.

Here is satisfying truth, painstakingly quarried and crafted for the needs of God’s people.

In a culture where crosses have become little more than decorative accessories and jewelry, how easy it is for even the most well-intended Christian to rush from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday without thoughtfully contemplating the cross and all that it means. Yet we miss out on spiritual riches when we do.

So that we all may linger at the cross during the Easter season—and stay near it the whole year through—editor Nancy Guthrie has compiled this special anthology. It draws from the works and sermons of classic theologians such as Luther, Edwards, Spurgeon, Ryle, and Augustine, and from leading contemporary communicators such as John Piper, R. C. Sproul, Francis Schaeffer, John MacArthur, Skip Ryan, and Joni Eareckson Tada to help readers enter into an experience of Christ’s passion and anchor their hope in the power of His resurrection.

Why? The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did He suffer so much? What has this to do with me? Finally, who sent Him to His death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God’s Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer.

The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause but the meaning—God’s meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons—not fifty causes, but fifty purposes—in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending His Son to die?

Ever since his first sermon in 1925, Martyn Lloyd-Jones consistently emphasized the significance of Christ’s sacrifice for our sake. This collection of sermons reveals this theme in Lloyd-Jones’s classic expository style, showing his gift for combining a warm, personal devotion to Jesus Christ with deep theological insight. His grasp of Scripture still causes the maturest believer to ponder, yet he brings a simplicity of thought to his preaching that even a child can understand and enjoy.

The Cross explains how Christ’s crucifixion works for our redemption and why this even is the cornerstone of the Christian life. From one of this century’s greatest preachers, this book provides excellent reading for ministers and anyone seeking a closer walk with Christ.

Dr. R. C. Sproul surveys the great work accomplished by Jesus Christ through His crucifixion—the redemption of God’s people. Dr. Sproul considers the atonement from numerous angles and shows conclusively that the cross was absolutely necessary if anyone was to be saved.

Opening the Scriptures, Dr. Sproul shows that God Himself provided salvation by sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross and that the cross was always God’s intended method by which to bring salvation. The Truth of the Cross is an uncompromising reminder that the atonement of Christ is an absolutely essential doctrine of the Christian faith, one that should be studied and understood by all believers.

If ever there was a time and a need for an enthusiastic reaffirmation of the biblical doctrine of substitutionary atonement, it is now. With this foundational tenet under widespread attack, J. I. Packer and Mark Dever’s anthology plays an important role, issuing a clarion call to readers to stand firm in the truth.

In My Place Condemned He Stood combines three classic articles by Packer—“The Heart of the Gospel”; his Tyndale Biblical Theology Lecture, “What Did the Cross Achieve?”; and his introductory essay to John Owen’sThe Death of Death in the Death of Christ—with Dever’s recent article, “Nothing but the Blood.” Thoughtful readers looking for a compact classic on this increasingly controversial doctrine need look no farther than this penetrating volume.

In this series, Alistair Begg leads us through the dramatic events surrounding Jesus’ arrest in Gethsemane, interrogation before Pilate, crucifixion at Calvary, and resurrection from the grave. In the apostle John’s account, we encounter Jesus in all His majesty as He calmly faces down His opponents and, ultimately, His own death on the cross. In the process, the incarnate Son of God, Messiah, and true King confronts us with His work on our behalf to offer salvation. These are credible, historical realities. Will we respond to the invitation to believe them?

As the Gospel of Luke begins, its author declares his intent to compile “an orderly account” of the person of Jesus so that anyone who reads it “may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.” When we open its pages, this is exactly what we find. Tracing Jesus’ life from His nativity and ministry to His crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension, Luke presents us with a portrait of a perfect, divine Savior in whom we can believe fully and securely.

In volume eleven of this series, Alistair Begg walks us through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Luke’s account focuses not on the sensational details of Jesus’ suffering but on what He accomplished at the cross. We see figures like Herod, the Roman centurion, Joseph of Arimathea, and the women at the tomb face an important decision: Will they go on as they always have, or will they be changed by the redemptive work and certain resurrection of Christ?

In every generation, one subject remains a source of fascination and fear: death. Is it really the end? What happens afterwards? At a time when people are increasingly preoccupied with stories of out-of-body experiences and are wondering about reincarnation, 1 Corinthians 15 is unique and striking in its impact. Here is the classical Christian discussion of the most vital subject. We do well to pay careful attention so that in a matter marked by great confusion we might learn to speak with clarity and conviction. In learning how to die, we find the key to learning how to live.

How are Christians to approach the central Gospel teachings concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus? The Bible firmly establishes the historicity of these events and doesn’t leave their meanings ambiguous or open to interpretation. Even so, there is an irony and surprising strangeness to the cross. D. A. Carson shows that this strange irony has deep implications for our lives as he examines the history and theology of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

Did Jesus of Nazareth really rise from the dead?

Of the many world religions, only one claims that its founder returned from the grave. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the very cornerstone of Christianity.

But a dead man coming back to life? In our sophisticated age, when myth has given way to science, who can take such a claim seriously? Some argue that Jesus never died on the cross. Conflicting accounts make the empty tomb seem suspect. And post-crucifixion sightings of Jesus have been explained in psychological terms.

How credible is the evidence for—and against—the resurrection? Focusing his award-winning skills as a legal journalist on history’s most compelling enigma, Lee Strobel retraces the startling findings that led him from atheism to belief. Drawing on expert testimony first shared in his blockbuster book The Case for Christ, Strobel examines:

The Medical Evidence: Was Jesus’ death a sham and His resurrection a hoax?

The Evidence of the Missing Body: Was Jesus’ body really absent from His tomb?

The Evidence of Appearances: Was Jesus seen alive after His death on the cross?

Written in a hard-hitting journalistic style, The Case for Easter probes the core issues of the resurrection.

Jesus Christ, risen from the dead: superstitious myth or life-changing reality? The evidence is in. The verdict is up to you.

The words Christ spoke from the cross can inform Christians of the purpose, the meaning, the sufferings, and the sufficiency of His death. After an introduction that discusses the nature of Christ’s death as natural, unnatural, preternatural, and supernatural, Dr. Arthur W. Pink clearly illustrates the lessons that can be drawn from Christ’s words—lessons on forgiveness, salvation, affection, anguish, suffering, victory, and contentment. This comprehensive and accessible volume is useful for both sermon preparation and personal study.

What would happen if believers truly grasped how the resurrection of Jesus changes not just their own standing with God but everything? In the spirit of John Piper’s Fifty Reasons Why Christ Came to Die, Steven D. Mathewson unpacks the New Testament Scriptures that speak of the reasons Jesus was raised from the dead.

Mathewson offers faith-filled meditations on the primary passages on the resurrection, taking these ancient truths and applying them to contemporary life. Risen explains not only why Jesus had to die but also why His resurrection was necessary and how our lives change when we understand and embrace this essential truth of the Christian faith.

DeWitt, and Alistair Begg) and covers a multitude of topics related to the atonement. Ranging from the necessity of the atonement to the homiletic power of the cross, each chapter helps the reader gain a deeper understanding about the nature and purpose of the atonement. Biblical exposition is the trademark of every author, and each subject is explained and applied with precision and persuasiveness.

Ryken covers the necessity of the cross for salvation; the offense it gives to Jews, gentiles, and any moral individual; the peace it brings to those who trust in Christ; the power it has to achieve God’s loving, saving purpose; the triumph it wins over sin, death, and the judgment of God; the humility it displays in the character of Jesus; and the boast it becomes for every believer.

By Sinclair Ferguson

What would it have been like to travel along the road with Jesus and the disciples as they moved toward the most pivotal point in all of human history—the crucifixion?

Best-selling author Sinclair Ferguson’s To Seek and to Save invites us to journey alongside Jesus on His final trip to Jerusalem. In this five-week Lenten devotional drawn from the Gospel of Luke, Sinclair gives us an intimate, up-close look at the vivid characters Jesus encountered as He made His way purposefully toward Calvary. From a speechless man to a fearful flock to an offended Pharisee, Jesus met all kinds of people—some seeking help, some simply curious, and some wanting nothing to do with Him.

In its unique collection of brief daily readings, To Seek and to Save compels us to consider our own response to Jesus as we learn from those who met Him face-to-face. Will we remain curious onlookers? Will we dismiss Him and walk away? Or will we believe that He is who He claimed to be?

Hymn: “The Old Rugged Cross” by George Bennard

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary.

Refrain

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me.

Refrain

To that old rugged cross I will ever be true,
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he'll call me some day to my home far away,
where his glory forever I'll share.

Refrain

Download or listen to 5 sermons from Alistair Begg about Palm Sunday.

Download or listen to 5 sermons from Alistair Begg about Palm Sunday.

Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:10) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

Some people celebrate Palm Sunday out of a sense of obligation or nostalgia, while others view the occasion with skepticism. As Alistair Begg explains, the details of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem can only be truly viewed through the lens of believing faith. Like the disciples, we cannot understand that Jesus is Messiah and King until the grace of God opens our eyes.

A Temporary Triumph (John 12, Luke 19, Matthew 21) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the people praised Him, but did they know who He really was? Sadly, the same crowd that gave Jesus praise upon His entry later called for His crucifixion. Alistair Begg suggests that professing Christians can also fall prey to this kind of hypocrisy when people honor Christ with their mouths, but their hearts are far from Him.

Behold Your King (Matthew 21:1–11) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

The story of Jesus' triumphal entry is familiar to many, but its significance is that it fulfills what was written about Jesus many years earlier. In this message from Isaiah 62, we learn that the triumphal entry is part of God's announcement of salvation to the ends of the earth.

See, Your King Is Coming (John 12:12–19) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

Throughout Israel’s history, God’s people looked for a promised king—one who would bring in an eternal kingdom and reign with justice. On Palm Sunday the Jerusalem crowds expected triumph, but King Jesus came as a suffering servant, not a conqueror. Alistair Begg observes that the Lord Jesus is a different kind of King ruling over a different kind of kingdom, a kingdom that exists in our hearts. Discover how to become a citizen of this kingdom.

Behold Your King Is Coming to You — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD $1.25

The Advent season encourages us not only to reflect on Christ's coming, but to look forward to his return. In this study of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem before the Passover, we learn to anticipate his triumphant return as king and judge.

Hymn: “Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed?” By Isaac Watts

Alas! and did my Savior bleed
And did my sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred Head
For sinners such as I?

Alas! and did my Savior bleed
And did my sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred Head
For sinners such as I?

Was it for sins that I had done
He suffered upon the tree?
Amazing pity! grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

Well might the sun in darkness hide
And shut His glories in,
When Christ, the great Redeemer, died
For man the creature’s sin.

Thus might I hide my blushing face
While His dear cross appears,
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
And melt mine eyes to tears.

But drops of grief can ne’er repay
The debt of love I owe;
Here, Lord, I give my self away-
’Tis all that I can do. Amen

Hymn: “In Tenderness He Sought Me” by W. Spencer Walton

In tenderness He sought me,
Weary and sick with sin,
And on His shoulders brought me
Back to His fold again.
While angels in His presence sang
Until the courts of heaven rang.

In tenderness He sought me,
Weary and sick with sin,
And on His shoulders brought me
Back to His fold again.
While angels in His presence sang
Until the courts of heaven rang.

Refrain:
O the love that sought me!
O the blood that bought me!
O the grace that brought me to the fold,
Wondrous grace that brought me to the fold!

He washed the bleeding sin-wounds
And poured in oil and wine;
He whispered to assure me,
“I’ve found thee, thou art Mine;”
I never heard a sweeter voice;
It made my aching heart rejoice!

Refrain

He pointed to the nail prints,
For me His blood was shed,
A mocking crown so thorny
Was placed upon His head:
I wondered what He saw in me
To suffer such deep agony.

Refrain

I’m sitting in His presence,
The sunshine of His face,
While with adoring wonder
His blessings I retrace:
It seems as if eternal days
Are far too short to sound His praise.

Refrain

So while the hours are passing,
All now is perfect rest;
I’m waiting for the morning,
The brightest and the best,
When He will call us to His side,
To be with Him, His spotless bride.

Refrain

Listen to the Message “Amazing Love — Part Three”

Hymn: “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” by Elizabeth Clephane

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day.

O safe and happy shelter, O refuge tried and sweet,
O trysting place where Heaven’s love and Heaven’s justice meet!
As to the holy patriarch that wondrous dream was given,
So seems my Savior’s cross to me, a ladder up to heaven.

There lies beneath its shadow but on the further side
The darkness of an awful grave that gapes both deep and wide
And there between us stands the cross two arms outstretched to save
A watchman set to guard the way from that eternal grave.

Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me;
And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess;
The wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

Listen to the Message, “A Man with a Need”

The cross of Christ stands at the center of the Christian faith. In fact, the preaching and ministry of the early Christians were dominated by the theme of Christ crucified. The book The Cross in Four Words surveys the whole of Scripture to help us gain a better understanding of God’s vast accomplishments through the cross—and what these accomplishments mean for each of us personally.

By tracing the line of God’s redemptive plan through all of Scripture, beginning in the early chapters of the Old Testament, The Cross in Four Words unpacks the specific blessings we’re given individually when we trust in Christ for our salvation.

These blessings are examined in-depth within the context of four main themes. When you read The Cross in Four Words, you’ll learn about:

Freedom. How the Passover and the blood of a lamb described in Exodus 12 pointed forward to freedom from sin through the blood of Christ.

Forgiveness. How the animal sacrifice on the Day of Atonement outlined in Leviticus 16 provided a temporary cleansing of guilt and prefigured the once-and-for-all forgiveness granted through the cross.

Justice. How Isaiah 53 foretold the declaration of righteousness by God through the atoning work of the cross.

Purpose. What our purpose as believers redeemed by the blood of Christ means as we seek to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and truly live out our faith.

In the book’s four concise chapters, three contributing authors each offer their well-studied insights to show us how the Old Testament foreshadowed God’s redemptive plan centuries before its fulfillment at Calvary.

The Cross in Four Words is a brief book, but it’s rich with profound truths that offer both new believers and longtime Christians many stirring insights into the blessings that are ours through the cross.

Request you copy today and meditate on the magnificence of God’s grace through the cross of Christ as you prepare for Easter.

“This is a really helpful book that I will be sharing widely. I read it in a single sitting and took a lot of notes.” —Alistair Begg

As the Gospel of Luke begins, its author declares his intent to compile “an orderly account” of the person of Jesus so that anyone who reads it “may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.” When we open its pages, this is exactly what we find.

Volume 1: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

As a well-traveled doctor and the only gentile writer in the New Testament, Luke set the story of Jesus’ birth in the context of the Roman Empire and the secular world of its day. Walking us through these opening chapters, Alistair Begg shows us the necessity of the incarnation: that Jesus had to be fully human and fully God to be able to fulfill the plan for our salvation.

Volume 2: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

When John the Baptist first came on the scene, many thought he was the long-awaited Messiah. Though they regretted to learn that he wasn’t, their disappointment was short-lived: even as John spoke, Christ was making His way into their region. Soon they would see Him and hear Him in person. In volume two of this series, Alistair Begg describes the explicit responses Christ provoked, with the people either believing Him fully or rejecting Him completely.

Volume 3: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume three of this series, Alistair Begg focuses on the lordship of Christ and the contrast between the world’s values and those of the believer’s life. Jesus’ early ministry and teaching focused on a wide range of themes, including the Sabbath, prayer, evangelism, mercy, love, forgiveness, dependence on God, obedience, and gratitude. Through it all, we catch glimpses of the Son of Man as He continued the journey that would lead him to Calvary.

Volume 4: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume four of this series, Alistair Begg leads us through Jesus’ interactions with a series of individuals, including His own disciples, a demon-possessed man, and the significant religious and political figures of His day. Confronted with the power of Christ, each had to come to a conclusion about who Jesus was—a decision that promised to change their lives forever.

Volume 5: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume five of this series, Alistair Begg follows Luke 11’s account of Christ’s continuing ministry in Galilee. Jesus patiently taught His disciples to pray, performed a miracle, instructed the crowds, and defended the truth against the Pharisees and teachers of the law. At each step, He revealed the truth of who He truly was: the promised Messiah, the Son of God.

Volume 6: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume six of this series, Alistair Begg examines several of Jesus’ sermons, many of which included parables illustrating godly living. Woven through Jesus’ lessons to the multitudes is one constant theme: “Repent now, before it’s too late.” His warnings are an important reminder to us that one day the opportunity to turn toward Him will have passed, and God’s judgment will be exacted. Let us seek Him today, while He may be found!

Volume 7: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume seven of this series, Alistair Begg follows Jesus as He interacts with the Pharisees and tells a number of well-known parables. Through these stories, Jesus provided a stern critique of those who use external religion to hide hearts of hypocrisy, pride, and selfishness. These lessons remind us that though God owes us nothing, His invitation for salvation is open to all who are willing to forsake their pride and humbly trust and obey Him.

Volume 8: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume eight of this series, Alistair Begg leads us through Luke’s narrative of Christ’s journey to Jerusalem, where He would soon offer Himself as a sacrifice for the world. Along the way, Jesus revealed the topsy-turvy nature of God’s kingdom—the last made first, the lost being found, outsiders being brought in, and sinners being made righteous. As He approached the cross, His words rebuked the prideful but promised hope to those who lean on His perfection.

Volume 9: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume nine of this series, Alistair Begg leads us through Luke’s account of Christ’s life as His ministry and mission neared its culmination at Calvary. Preparing both His followers and enemies for His death and resurrection, Jesus answered questions about His authority and identity, warned unbelievers of the judgement to come, and comforted the faithful with the promise of eternal life and fellowship with God.

Volume 10: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume ten of this series, Alistair Begg focuses on Luke’s description of Jesus’ last days with His disciples, betrayal, and arrest. Christ’s compassion and love for His friends and enemies was clear in His words and actions. Even in His suffering and betrayal, we see God’s sovereignty always at work. As His followers, we too will have trouble in the world—but we can trust that Jesus reigns over all and God is working everything for our good and His glory.

Volume 11: Listen | Download Zip || Purchase: CD Series | MP3 CD

In volume eleven of this series, Alistair Begg walks us through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Luke’s account focuses not on the sensational details of Jesus’ suffering but on what He accomplished at the cross. We see figures like Herod, the Roman centurion, Joseph of Arimathea, and the women at the tomb face an important decision: Will they go on as they always have, or will they be changed by the redemptive work and certain resurrection of Christ?

The book of Proverbs presents a treasure of godly insights for successfully navigating everyday life. Living Well: God’s Wisdom from the Book of Proverbs explores these invaluable lessons, which come directly from God and have endured for three thousand years.

Organized by topic, Living Well unpacks more than forty subjects that are addressed in Proverbs. Across ten easy-to-read chapters, Living Well will lead you subject by subject through God’s instructions relating to essential areas of life like interpersonal relationships, handling finances, marriage, parenting, and work. You’ll also explore warnings related to the power of words and the danger of pride. Importantly and helpfully, Living Well frames all of this profitable wisdom in a way that makes it easy to assimilate God’s rich instruction into modern life by offering examples that relate to our contemporary world.

Proverbs is great for reading on a quiet afternoon, and Living Well serves as an excellent guide and companion, helping readers to understand and apply all that God teaches about managing the practical aspects of everyday life wisely.

Download or listen to five sermons by Alistair Begg about The Gospel.

Download or listen to five sermons by Alistair Begg about The Gospel.

What Is the Gospel? (Romans 1:16-17) — Listen (Free) | Download MP3 (Free) | Purchase CD $1.25

Ancient Rome was similar to many modern cities: diverse, wealthy, and openly immoral. Paul had a message to deliver that Rome needed to hear. God sent him to proclaim the good news about Jesus, who is the only one who can reconcile man to God and save us from sin, the devil, and death. Salvation is available for everyone who believes, Alistair Begg reminds us. This good news conforms us to Christ and leads to the fulfillment of God’s eternal purposes.

Loved by God (1 Thessalonians 1:4-10) — Listen (Free) | Download MP3 (Free)| Purchase CD $1.25

Paul wrote to encourage the church in Thessalonica with the conviction that God works powerfully through His Word and His Church to further the Gospel. Alistair Begg reminds us that genuine conversion always results in radical change. When Christians display transformed lives and proclaim the Word that we have received wherever God has placed us, the Gospel advances to the glory of God.

Christ Has Been Raised (1 Corinthians 15:1-15) — Listen (Free) | Download MP3 (Free)| Purchase CD $1.25

The foundation for all Christian faith and teaching – and the source of all meaning in life – can be found in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Alistair Begg draws these truths from a key passage in 1 Corinthians 15 and explains how the good news of the Gospel must include both a dying Savior and a risen, living Lord. Our understanding of Jesus’ resurrection forms the basis from which we each answer two important questions: Do I believe in Jesus? and Do I belong to Him?

Communicating the Exclusivity of the Gospel (Romans 1:16-17) — Listen (Free) | Download MP3 (Free) | Purchase CD $1.25

The Gospel is true always and everywhere; otherwise, it wouldn’t be good news! Sharing the truth can be difficult, though, especially in a culture that rejects the very idea of truth. As Alistair Begg reminds us, we are called to affirm and proclaim what the Bible makes clear: Jesus Christ alone can save humanity. We must avoid the pressure to reinvent or compromise this truth about Jesus, our only way of salvation.

Salvation (2 Timothy 1:9-10) — Listen (Free) | Download MP3 (Free) | Purchase CD $1.25

When Paul encouraged Timothy to join in his suffering for the Gospel, he left no question about what the Gospel is. It is not a vague idea that can mean whatever we want, and it cannot be changed to suit our circumstances. As Alistair Begg explains, the Gospel is the good news that sinful men and women are given new life and a new calling by faith in Christ, and it reorients how we view every aspect of life and ministry.

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King thru all eternity.

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King thru all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of love, behold His hands and side,
Rich wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his wond’ring eye at mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of life, who triumphed over the grave,
Who rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save.
His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of heav’n: One with the Father known,
One with the Spirit thru Him giv’n from yonder glorious throne.
To thee be endless praise, For Thou for us hast died;
Be Thou, O Lord, thru endless days adored and magnified. Amen

Parenting can be difficult and many hope to find a handbook to help them through challenging times. In these sermons, Alistair Begg encourages us to look to the Bible for instruction on the roles of fathers and mothers.

Family Life — God’s Way (Exodus 20:12) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

Today’s culture worships youth but disregards authority. Alistair Begg challenges us to consider that when the Fifth Commandment requires us to honor our parents, it establishes a principle that is at the foundation of society. Honoring our parents reflects the degree to which we honor God. As this principle is worked out in practical ways, it has the potential to transform our society for the glory of God.

A Word to Fathers — Part One (Ephesians 6:4) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

Paul instructed fathers not to provoke their children to anger, assuming parental authority, but appealing for its restraint. Reminding us that children ultimately belong God, Alistair Begg warns parents of certain pitfalls that are likely to exasperate their children and incite responses of bitterness and resentment. The responsibility of biblical parenting is impossible apart from the grace and wisdom of God the Father, who provides the ultimate example in the love and grace He demonstrates toward His children. Listen to Part Two

The Biblical Pattern for Fathers (Colossians 3:21) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

A child’s favorite Bible verse may be “Fathers do not embitter your children.” The task of a father in raising a child can be difficult. How can a father keep his children from becoming frustrated, feeling unwanted and becoming embittered? Join us as Pastor Begg provides thought provoking insight regarding the key to turning discouragement into encouragement.

The High Calling of Wives and Mothers (Titus 2:4-5) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

Looking back on our lives, we quickly recall the tremendous impact of our mothers on us and our homes. Our culture is confused about the great privilege and task of making a home; the investment a mother makes in the lives of her children is invaluable. Alistair Begg presents a biblical perspective, defining the priorities and purpose of mothers who are wholly devoted to God.

Children (Colossians 3:20) — Listen | Download MP3 | Purchase CD ($1.25)

One distinct sign of a crumbling society is that children no longer obey their parents. Today, many perceive the notion that parents have authority over their children as anti-cultural or “old-fashioned.” In this message, Alistair Begg challenges this belief, reminding children that sincere obedience comes more easily when they are captured by the love of Jesus Christ. By honoring and respecting their parents, children testify to the wonder of God’s amazing grace.
