Holiness

What does it mean to be holy?

Anglican Bishop and renown theologian J.C. Ryle explores the depths of what true holiness is, and explains the only way in which it can be attained, in his classic book, Holiness: It’s Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties, and Roots.

In a culture where holy living is often dismissed as "outdated", or is wrongly presumed to be achieved simply through regular church attendance, Ryle firmly assures us otherwise.

Holiness comes through sanctification: "The inward spiritual work which the Lord Jesus Christ works in a man by the Holy Spirit, when He calls him to be a true believer." So what does this look like in the life of a Christian? And, what are the day-by-day practical steps Christians should take in response to God's gift of the Holy Spirit to honor Him through true holiness.

Originally published in 1879, this comprehensive explanation of sin, sanctification, and genuine holy living has been revised in modern-English text and is available now from Truth For Life in a new, abridged version.
