Dear Friend,
“All One in Christ Jesus” is the tagline of the Keswick Convention. Begun over 140 years ago by a small group of clergymen who were keen to encourage one another in the “quiet” days of summer, it has grown into a three-week event involving thousands of attendees from the UK and the rest of the world.
I have just returned from speaking there during week two. The previous week, the main speaker was Don Carson, who taught on Galatians. My brief was five psalms. Each morning, I spoke to a crowd of 3,200, plus another 1,000 in overflow locations. I also taught the students who were teaching the children and spoke to the teenagers at their late-night event. It was, as on previous occasions, an immense privilege. You can find details by going online to KeswickMinistries.org.
From the Lake District of England, I went to London to join the team from LifeWay Christian Resources. They had asked me to help in the promotional work for the Spurgeon Study Bible, which is going to be released November 1. We shot video at various locations around London, including Spurgeon’s tomb. I also addressed a conference at Spurgeon’s College. It would appear that Spurgeon is largely forgotten in his homeland, and yet highly regarded here in North America. In fact, the Truth For Life daily devotionals come from Spurgeon’s work titled Morning and Evening, and we receive a frequent stream of letters and email telling us that his writings are a source of daily encouragement.
This month, we present And He Shall Reign, Volume 2, a brand new series from the book of Daniel. Our resources complement the teaching in this study. From the Resurrection to His Return, written by fellow Keswick speaker Don Carson, helps us to live each day in anticipation of Jesus’s return. Devoted to God, a new book by Sinclair Ferguson, explores the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. I hope you request them both.
With my love in the Lord Jesus,
P.S. I had the opportunity to sit down in front of a camera and share some thoughts on the topic of parenting God’s way. If you have children and are now back in the busy routine of school, you may find them particularly helpful. Visit truthforlife.org/parentingtips.
